TWO DAYS ON THE VORDERER GEIGENKAMM

On the route from Erlanger Hütte via the Forchheimerweg to Ötztal-Bahnhof, it is highly recommended to stay overnight at the Maisalm, since otherwise you have to manage more than 2,350 meters of descent in one day. From the hut, you go down northwards until you cross the slopes outward. A path leads up to a ridge and then steeply down into the innermost Tumpental.
You ascend into the Murmentenkarjoch. Beyond, the route goes north downwards to the small Forchheimer bivouac box (emergency shelter, accessible without key, four sleeping places).

The route continues down along the ridge, bypassing the Hahnenkamm on the east side. Then it continues to the Vorderer Geigenkamm, from where the path leads to the Mutkopf and the Muthütte (not managed). On a cart track, you continue descending to the Maisalm (6 hours from Erlanger Hütte) – overnight stay is recommended here (reserve in advance).

If you follow the signposted route via driveable and hiking paths, you reach the valley village Roppen the next day. There you walk eastward along the track-adjacent road and from the Ötztaler Ache follow the Ötztal cycle path to Ötztal-Bahnhof.

Public transit

Travel comfortably and safely by train to the Ötztal station. The final stop or exit point is the ÖTZTAL station. Afterwards, you can travel conveniently and quickly with public transport or local taxi companies throughout the entire valley to your desired destination.
