Ötztal Nature Park

The unique Ötztal Nature Park is one of Tirol's largest protected areas, preserving an alpine landscape of exceptional biodiversity. Glaciers, high alpine trails and rare habitats provide refuge zones for countless animal and plant species.

At the same time, the Nature Park makes nature accessible. The Nature Park House, several information points, guided tours and research projects bring topics such as climate, geology and biodiversity to life. Protected areas like alpine stone pine forests, quiet zones and alpine side valleys ensure the long-term preservation of nature.

A year-round program of guided hikes, snowshoe tours and theme trails opens up new perspectives on the huge range of alpine landscapes. Whether natural history trails, archaeological paths or geo-routes, each trail tells its own story.

Culture, Tradition & Customs

The Ötztal Museums serve as focal points for regional memory culture, making the history of the valley accessible in a variety of ways. Through exhibitions, events and educational programs, they explore defining themes of the region, ranging from the evolution of glaciers and traditional rural life to archaeology and architectural heritage.

A unique cultural treasure is the Ötztal dialect as part of the country's Intangible Cultural Heritage: it plays an important role in the regional identity. The digital Ötztal Dialect Dictionary documents this distinct linguistic area, illustrating how closely language, daily life and the local spirit are intertwined in Ötztal - robust, unmistakable, deeply rooted in the valley.

The Ötztal Museums also reflect this holistic philosophy through their commitment to the environment: they hold an official Ecolabel, as social and ecological sustainability are firmly anchored in the preservation of centuries-old historic buildings, educational initiatives and everyday operations.

Climate, Energy & Mobility

  • Winter Sports, Energy & Snowmaking: Winter sports in Ötztal are increasingly relying on sustainable solutions: mountain lifts use green electricity and photovoltaic devices, while modern snowmaking systems operate in a resource-efficient way using water from local reservoirs. Free skibus shuttles further reduce private car traffic.
  • Mobility & Getting There: A well-developed public transportation infrastructure promises relaxed and environmental-friendly travel options. Bus connections in 30-minute intervals throughout the valley, direct train connections and seasonal services such as ski and hiking buses promote car-free mobility. The 50 km long Ötztal Cycle Trail complements the varied offer in summer.
  • E-Mobility: With around 100 charging stations and over 160 charging points, sustainable mobility is actively supported. The dense network makes it easy to travel comfortably by electric car throughout the valley.

Conscious use of water: protecting a precious resource

In Ötztal, water is not only a vital resource but a precious commodity whose quality meets the highest standards. The drinking water comes directly from alpine springs and is filtered through natural rock strata, giving it its exceptional purity. Regular testing ensures that it always meets the strictest legal standards and can be enjoyed without hesitation.

We fiercely encourage you to use Ötztal's valuable water consciously and avoid water waste. Here is how you can contribute to a responsible use of drinking water and the protection of our alpine waters:

  • Refill water bottles: use tap water to avoid single-use bottles. Along the way, you can also use a variety of drinking fountains to refill your bottle.
  • Avoid bottled water: simply enjoy local tap water.
  • Avoid litter: don't leave trash in or near rivers, brooks and lakes.
  • Avoid cleaning agents: don't use detergents or cleaning products in natural waters.
  • Respect rivers & lakeshores: pay attention to signs and stay away from sensitive lake and river areas.
  • Conserve water: report dripping faucets, reuse towels, only take quick showers.

By using water consciously and respectfully, we can all help secure and preserve this precious resource for future generations.
