Art trail Barteb'ne

High alpine open-air gallery

On the wide open plain between Vent and the historic Rofenhöfe Farms, deeply symbolic sculptures that enter into dialogue with attentive hikers are catching the eye. The artworks made of stone were created between 2007 and 2013 as part of the ARTeVENT international sculpture symposium. With the help of an audio guide that can be accessed with your own smartphone, this unique Art Trail becomes a lively narrated symbiosis between art, nature and people.

Art trail Barteb’ne – An introduction

The art trail on Barteb'ne, an open-air gallery at 1,900 meters above sea level, is nestled in a high alpine landscape. Barteb'ne, a flat stretch of valley between Vent and the Rofenhöfe farms, was already a special place thousands of years ago - a place to stop and rest. Its name comes from “Bart”, a term for the shaggy grass that grows here.

Stones of various shapes, colors and sizes are scattered left and right along the path. Some of these “highwaymen” were chosen for art. During an international sculpture symposium called ARTeVENT, artists from all over the world created sculptures here over several years. Some were imposing and visible from afar, others were placed inconspicuously on small hills or only recognizable at second glance. The aim was to make art present in the mountaineering village of Vent.

  • Starting point: Vent or Rofenhöfe
  • Walking time to and back: 1 - 1.5 h
  • Difficulty level: easy
  • Difference in altitude: approx. 100 meters

Other special features: Suspension bridge at the Rofenhöfe farms, old Wildspitz cross, prehistoric hunters' camp

Note: In winter and when there is snow, the art trail is only accessible to a limited extent.
