Map & elevation profile

HUBEN FOOTBALL PITCH -> Towards Alpengasthof am Feuerstein -> Junction Hahlkogelhaus -> HAHLKOGEL

Starting directly from the sports field, follow the forest road towards the Alpengasthof am Feuerstein, from which you repeatedly enjoy a magnificent valley view. (Alternatively, the Sagenweg can also be chosen) After about 30 minutes of walking, you reach a fork and follow the signs to Hahlkogelhaus on the right. The narrow mountain path ascends steeply. Over a section secured with a wire rope, you reach a beautiful viewing platform (bench). From there, the path leads more gently through larch forests to Ebenalm and slightly downhill shortly before the Hahlkogelhaus (not operated). At a small shed shortly before the hut, follow the signs towards "Hahlkogel, Pollesalm, Wartkogelsee" and gently ascending over the beautiful alpine meadows to the next fork. There turn right uphill following the sign "Hahlkogel - Wartkogelsee" and at the next sign turn right and continue in steep switchbacks to the connecting ridge between the Greater and Lesser Hahlkogel. Head southeast and do easy scrambling to the summit.

Author's tip

The ascent to the summit can be shortened by using the hut taxi, which runs in summer up to Polltalalm.
Advance booking is required at Ötztal Tourism.
