Map & elevation profile

GRIES IM SULZTAL -> hamlet Winnebach -> Winnebachseehut -> GÄNSEKRAGEN

From the parking lot at the end of Gries, follow the road to Winnebach to take the trail towards Winnebachseehut. Soon the path leads out of the forest past numerous avalanche tracks. The well-constructed path twists steeply uphill at the end to the Winnebachseehut. From Winnebachseehut, walk west towards the supports of the material cable car. From there, the path leads up over the south flank of the Gänsekragen. At the southeast ridge, the path continues upwards over steep grassy terrain. Then briefly cross a rock gorge to the left side and go up again, staying to the right alongside rocky terrain. The last section of the summit hike goes steeply over large rock slabs to the summit cross.

Additional information

More information about hiking in the Ötztal can be found here

From the parking lot at the end of Gries, the ascent to the hamlet of Winnebach begins. From here, a trail initially leads through the forest, later through barren terrain to the Winnebachseehut. From the hut, the well-marked trail climbs very steeply. Although it seems the summit is almost within reach, the strenuous path still drags on quite a bit. Shortly before the goal, you reach a notch from which you then climb somewhat exposed to the summit.
