Eckkamm via ferrata | Huben
Map & elevation profile
The Tour
The new via ferrata for beginners and families.
The "Eckkamm" via ferrata runs through the west face of the so-called "Eckkamm" at 1620 m near Huben in the Ötztal. The elongated ridge of this ridge extends from Huben southwards and is forested at the foot of the wall and in the exit area. A path called the "Sagenweg" leads from Huben both to the entrance and the exit. At the saddle south of the exit is the managed "Alpengasthof am Feuerstein", with a chapel and a viewing platform nearby. The "Eckkamm" via ferrata runs from bottom left to top right through the approximately 200-meter-high rock face of the "Eckkamm", partially covered with trees and vegetation, and has about 160 meters of altitude difference. The difficulty level mainly ranges from A to B, with some sections at B/C. The climb takes about 1.5 hours. Many sections run sideways or diagonally upwards to the right. The ascents over various "ramps" are generously equipped with footholds. There are three rope bridges, two rope ladders, and a small rest bench. The via ferrata is perfectly secured and has only a few short steep sections - making it particularly suitable for via ferrata beginners. As the wall faces westward, in the hot summer months you have the opportunity to climb in the shade in the morning. The via ferrata has additionally been equipped with a special safety system designed to increase safety, especially for beginners. A so-called push carabiner (available, among others, at the climbing and mountaineering shop "Alpintreff" in Unterlängenfeld) is inserted into the system and pushed along the entire via ferrata. This additional push carabiner prevents unintended detachment of the entire via ferrata set except at two points. At these two prepared interruptions, other via ferrata users can overtake other persons with the same system on the via ferrata. Experienced climbers can also use a conventional via ferrata set.
