Frequently asked questions

There is a wide selection of ski schools throughout Ötztal, ranging from full-service ski schools offering comprehensive packages to specialized ski schools or one-person ski schools. Which ski school is best for you strongly depends on your personal goals: beginner, returning skier, technique training or snowboarding? In every ski area of Ötztal you will find certified ski instructors who will guide you step by step and turn by turn.

Even beginners need classic ski equipment:

  • Skis
  • Ski boots
  • Ski poles (optional at the beginning)
  • Ski helmet
  • Ski goggles

You don't need to buy anything in advance: in all Ötztal holiday villages you will find well-equipped ski rental shops providing suitable equipment for beginners. However, you should bring your own ski clothing such as a ski jacket, ski pants, ski gloves and thermal underwear or warm functional clothing. Of course, you can also buy it on site.

The learning pace varies from person to person, but there are some general guidelines that apply in most cases:

  • Adults: can usually use the practice lift independently after just one day and also make their first turns and are able to brake. After about three days of instruction, easy blue slopes are usually not a problem anymore.
  • Children: ski courses generally last about five to six days with daily practice units and often end with a fun-packed final ski race. Children generally spend more time in the children's land or practice area to learn skiing in a more playful way. Depending on age and skill level, the first blue slope is realistic from day three or four.

In Ötztal you will learn particularly quickly and safely in small groups or during private lessons.

Yes. Balance and coordination exercises are very helpful when getting started. Squats, wall sits and balance training units (for example: standing on one leg or using a balance board) strengthen both legs and core - ideal for greater confidence on the slopes.

Safety first - please note:

  • Warm up and stretch before you start
  • Adjust your bindings and ski boots correctly
  • Wear a helmet
  • Ski defensively and follow the general FIS ski slope rules
