Description

This treasure route takes you around Umhausen, over the Arzwinkel Waalweg you reach the Steppsteig and then back into the village.

Map & elevation profile

This treasure route takes you around Umhausen, over the Arzwinkel Waalweg you reach the Steppsteig and then back into the village.

The hike towards Otzi Village/Umhausen bathing lake starts at the Mure parking lot. Walking through the village, the path leads up to the right in front of the Kneipphäusl into the Tauferberg forest. At the top a flat path branches off to the left - you are on the Waalweg. Right next to the flat high path runs a small stream that used to irrigate the fields. You will also find one or two waterwheels here. Follow the path until you reach the normal road, then turn left downhill (Umhausen village) to hike around Umhausen on the Steppsteig. Just before, you might encounter the Stuiben Nannele. Enjoy the idyllic view of Umhausen. Along the panorama boards on the Steppsteig you will learn more about the forest and its flora as well as its cultural special features. At the end of the path you reach the Vivea Hotel and then hike down behind it to a chapel, to then return to the starting point.

How do you find your treasure?

Along the route there are small caches (treasure boxes). In each cache there is a clue noted on a letter. Enter this letter in the treasure map. Only after you have found all the caches and formed the solution word, can the treasure chest be opened at one of the nearest Ötztal Tourism information points.

Author's tip

You are welcome to include the Wienerssteig in your treasure hunt (at your own risk).

The hiking trail runs from the Vivea Hotel towards Farst, where there are also small "treasures" hidden, which however do not belong to the "Stuibenfall Runde" treasure hunt.

Recommended maps

  • Geocaching map Umhausen-Niederthai | Stuiben- and Tauferberg route

The start of the Stuibenfall Route is the Umhausen information office, with parking available in the village center at the Mure parking lot (free). From there the hike goes through the village toward Niederthai/Stuibenfall. When you reach the Bischoffsplatz parking lot, the first cache is hidden next to the Kneipphäusl restaurant and below the Kneipp facility.  Continue past the Kneipp facility, a little way up through the forest and then right into the Arzwinkel Waalweg. The forest path leads you comfortably over roots and stones through the forest toward Stuibenfall. You should not miss a cache here. At the end of the Waalweg you reach the wide forest road, which you follow straight ahead to the Stuböbele forest café.  At the Stuböbele forest café turn left and continue slightly downhill along the wide forest road and hopefully do not overlook the third cache. You might also encounter the Stuiben Nannele before you turn into the Steppsteig. This hiking trail leads you around Umhausen somewhat above the village. Repeatedly you can enjoy the view of the village from the viewing platforms and also discover one or the other cache. At the end of the Steppsteig you reach a junction, here continue straight on until you reach the Vivea Hotel. At the Vivea Hotel follow the signposted path (below the information board) to the right over the small wooden bridge and continue slightly downhill along the Murbach stream to the chapel. Once you have arrived at the chapel and grabbed the last cache, you walk left along the paved road back to the starting point of the Stuibenfall route and pick up your very own treasure at the information office.
