Ötztal Cycle RoutePhoto: Ötztal
The cycle path starts in the town center of Haiming. Protected by mountain ranges all around, the entrance to the Ötztal valley offers a wonderful climate with little precipitation and lots of sunshine. The mild temperatures make it the heart of Tyrolean apple growing. The cycle path passes the hamlets of Magerbach and Schlierenzau and leads to Ötztal-Bahnhof. Then it continues through a forest for several hundred meters parallel to the railway tracks to AREA 47, Austria’s largest outdoor adventure park. From here, it heads south, away from the federal road, through Brunau and along the Ötztaler Ache to Oetz.
At the end of Oetz, cycle parallel to the Ötztaler Bundesstraße to Habichen. An underpass at Habichen invites a detour to Habicher See, or take on the challenging climb “Tumpener Gstoag”. The path leads through a small forest section (Seestall/Grube) to Tumpen. Here, it goes past the school towards the Ötztaler Bundesstraße, which you cross, as well as the Ötztaler Ache afterwards. Relaxed, continue towards Umhausen, past Engelswand, the hamlet Lehn-Platzl, and the chapel Maria Schnee. A small climb takes you directly into the center of Umhausen. Passing the parish church, follow the ground markings through the hamlet Neudurf until you cross the Ache again at Fundus bridge in the valley floor.
The cycle path continues along the Ache to the turnoff Köfels and on a gravel path to Au. At the end, an asphalted path above the roaring Ötztaler Ache crosses two newly built spectacular cycle bridges. After the second bridge, turn left into a somewhat steeper forest section. At the end of this forest section, an underpass leads to the other side of the road. At the next intersection, turn right to Winklen, then at the next fork turn right along the Ache towards Unterried. At the next intersection, turn right to Winklen again, pass the hamlets Oberried, Lehn, and Unterried west of Längenfeld, and finally reach Längenfeld. From here, cycle past the famous Aqua Dome spa and follow the path through the wide meadows of Astlehn and Runhof to reach Huben. The impressive mountain world in the rear Ötztal draws closer and closer.
At the end of Huben, cross the Ötztaler Ache again and follow a gravel path parallel to the federal road. Through an underpass, you safely reach the other side of the road and cycle on gravel to Bruggen. After another underpass, a cycle bridge crosses the Ache at Aschbach, followed by a short uphill and slight downhill. Soon you come to the next bridge overpass. At the following fork, keep more east and cycle down to the valley floor, where another bridge crosses the Ache. The last part of the Ötztal cycle route leads finally east of Ötztaler Ache into the municipality of Sölden.
Author’s recommendation
We advise you to follow the route of the Ötztal cycle path exactly, otherwise longer stretches have to be ridden on the heavily trafficked Ötztaler Bundesstraße. Watch out for the white ground markings.

BIKE BEHAVIOR RULES
- Always cycle on the right, at a controlled speed, and use half sight if necessary, especially in narrow sections and tight corners, as oncoming traffic or obstacles (e.g., bollards, barriers, stones, branches, cattle grids, other vehicles) can occur at any time.
- Note that the used roads and paths often have mixed uses and therefore obstructions may occur at any time (e.g., agricultural and forestry vehicles, authorized vehicles, stored wood, grazing cattle).
- Be considerate particularly of pedestrians and other cyclists and overtake only at walking pace.
- Consider the technical and physical difficulty of your cycling tour and accurately assess your experience and ability as a cyclist (for bike or e-bike beginners, a safety training course is recommended).
- Protect your head with a helmet and check your equipment before starting each ride (brakes, bell, light, reflectors, etc.).
- Adhere to driving bans and closures. Close the pasture gates.
- Be considerate of animals and nature and avoid riding off the roads and paths open to cycle traffic.
- Do not leave any waste behind.
- According to the traffic regulations, only e-bikes/pedelecs with a maximum speed of 25 km/h are allowed on cycle paths.

Roadbook
The Ötztal cycle route starts in the town center of Haiming at the municipal square. From there, turn left onto Ötztalerstraße, then at the end of the street turn left again onto Alte Bundesstraße. The cycle path leads over a bridge into the hamlet of Magerbach. Here, keep left again and follow a section of the well-known Inn cycle path, before the Ötztal cycle route turns left towards Schlierenzau after about 2 km. At the end of the hamlet, cross the Inn and after a short, steep climb you reach the village of Ötztal-Bahnhof, an important public transport hub at the beginning of the Ötztal. At the end of Simmeringweg, the Ötztal cycle route leads into Wiesrainstraße, past the playground and sports field and between the first industrial buildings. At the next intersection, turn right into Industriestraße, then after the underpass turn right again and go over a narrow path into Bahnrain and finally to Bahnhofplatz. From there turn right into Ambergstraße and after a few meters turn right again into Wassertalstraße. At the end of the street, turn right again and go along a gravel path between forest and railway tracks under the Inn bridge. The gravel path then leads to the spot where the roaring Ötztaler Ache flows into the calm Inn. After crossing the Ache, take the path to the left and always follow the Ötztaler Ache. You will soon pass the largest outdoor leisure park in Austria, AREA 47. Upon arrival there, the path crosses the Ötztaler Ache again. Then turn right and follow Ötztaler Achstraße. Shortly after, turn right again and follow the gravel path until you reach the small hamlet of Brunau. Cycle past the small chapel there and continue straight ahead. Soon you leave the houses behind and cycle over lush meadows. Here, a view down the valley to the imposing Tschirgant is worth it. Then you cross the Ötztaler Ache again and follow the Ache down the valley towards Sautens. After about 1 km, you reach a covered rest area with a magnificent view of the church of Oetzerau and the northernmost three-thousander of the Eastern Alps, the Acherkogel. This beautiful spot with benches and a fountain invites you to linger. A fast charging station for e-bikes is also available here. You follow the path always down the valley, cycling past more meadows and fields, then turn left at the next fork in the road. After a few meters, you cycle again along the Ötztaler Ache. After a short ascent and descent, cross it and cycle a short section parallel to the Ötztaler Bundesstraße before the cycle path turns right. You cycle a short stretch along the roaring Ötztaler Ache again. At the next intersection, turn left and continue along the paved path further down the valley. From here, you can already see the village of Oetz. At the end of the path, first turn right, then immediately left and shortly pass the first houses in Oetz. Follow Achrainweg, cross Piburger Straße and follow the path until you turn onto Niederfeldweg at the next junction. On this flat path, you can relax cycling past the houses and turn left at the end of the path towards Ötztaler Bundesstraße.
Cross the federal road and safely continue on the agricultural road parallel to the federal road. After a short, slight climb, you reach Habichen. There the path runs for a short way parallel to the federal road and past the first houses before turning left into the small village. In Habichen, follow the path to the right, which leads directly through the village. At the next intersection, cycle through the underpass and turn left. Cross the Ötztaler Ache again and follow the cycle path to the end of the settlement. After the industrial area, a steep climb parallel to the Ötztaler Bundesstraße awaits. The path goes through a small, idyllic forest section, always along the Tumpenbach, until finally reaching Tumpen. Here, keep right to enter the village. At the next intersection, take the left path, cycle leisurely past the school and then cross the Ötztaler Bundesstraße as well as the Ötztaler Ache to reach the eastern side of the valley. After choosing the left path at the first intersection, the cycle path runs past the sports field and continues along the ridge further down the valley. Always following the flat path, you pass the Engelswand, popular with climbers, and cycle relaxed into the next hamlet Lehn. There you continue rolling over the flat meadows, past the church Maria Schnee and cross the Rennebach. After a short forest section, a path leads directly into the village of Umhausen at the next intersection. Many attractions, such as the Ötzi Village or the largest waterfall in Tyrol, the Stuibenfall, await you here.
The direct route of the Ötztal cycle path continues right, where you first cross the Ötztaler Bundesstraße and then the Ötztaler Ache at the sports field Östen. After the bridge, the path continues on the left side further down the valley and leads through the hamlet Leiersbach. Soon you enter an idyllic 3 km long forest section. Follow this further down the valley at the next intersection until you finally cross the paved road to Köfels. Here, the cycle path crosses the Ötztaler Ache again before immediately turning right onto a gravel path and following it to continue parallel to the federal road. After a short while, the cycle path changes from gravel to asphalt and runs separately from the Ötztaler Bundesstraße and above the roaring Ötztaler Ache over two newly built cycle bridges. After the second cycle bridge, take the gravel path that leads a bit steeper uphill through a forest section to the hamlet Au. Below the Nöslach chapel, you reach the other side of the road via an underpass and follow the path until finally arriving at the small hamlet Au. At the beginning of Au, take the right path towards Winklen and after a few meters turn left to follow the meadow, cycle, and hiking path along the Ötztaler Ache. At the next fork in the road, choose the path that leads right. After crossing the road briefly, you cycle relaxed further and soon reach the hamlet Unterried. Here, follow the road straight ahead, pass the local museum and the Lehner waterfall and shortly after reach the next hamlet Oberried. In Oberried, first turn left, then immediately right and continue to follow the signs towards Längenfeld. At the end of Oberried, the path leads to a gravel path through wide fields and past the Pestkapelle. After crossing the Ötztaler Ache, cycle straight through a small forest section after which you shortly pass the 22,000 m² large thermal spa - Aqua Dome. Immediately after the spa, first turn left and then keep right. Here you cycle relaxed through the wide meadows and the hamlets Astlehn and Runhof.
In Runhof, turn right and cross the Ötztaler Ache. At the end of the path, keep left and cycle through the hamlet Gottsgut. After a short time, you reach the Ötztaler Funpark. Many play opportunities, such as a trampoline facility, invite small and large adventurers to linger. Past the Ötztaler Funpark, the cycle path continues straight through to the village of Huben. At the end of Huben, cross the Ötztaler Ache again and turn right onto a gravel path before the federal road. An underpass leads to the other side of the road. From there, you reach Winkle via a forest path. You cycle past the campsite to the next hamlet, Bruggen. At the end of Bruggen, take the underpass to cross the federal road again and follow the path down the valley to Aschbach. In Aschbach, cross a cycle bridge and cycle on the wide forest path parallel to the Ötztaler Bundesstraße. The path then leads with a slight ascent through a forest section until you reach a slightly downhill next bridge overpass. At the fork after the overpass, keep left and follow the path down to the valley floor where another bridge crosses the Ötztaler Ache. Continuing on this path, you cycle through the large hamlets of Sölden Kaisers, Schmiedhof and Rechenau and finally reach the end point of the Ötztal cycle route, the information office of the Ötztal Tourism directly in the center of Sölden at the Freizeit Arena.
