Map & elevation profile

The circular hiking trail at Tauferberg mostly leads through the forest, where you discover mystical rock crevices and granite blocks. Listen to the birds tweeting and watch for squirrels crossing your path; along the way, you can find typical forest hiding places.

The circular hike begins at the Nordic Sports Arena parking lot in Niederthai by the football field. From there, follow the paved road towards Tellerboden. You hike along a wide forest path through mystical landscapes.

The fresh mountain air and the silence of nature invite you to enjoy a moment of peace and absorb the beauty of the surroundings.

Enjoy the view here and there of the neighboring community. Keep an eye out for the hidden forest man's house and rest at the clearing before reaching an overgrown pond and a feeding station.

How do you find your treasure?

Along the marked route, there are small caches (treasure boxes). In each cache, there is a sheet with letters noted on it. Enter these letters on your treasure map. Whoever has found all caches and can form the code word can pick up a gift with this code word at the Umhausen or Niederthai information office.

Author's tip

About halfway through your treasure hunt, it is recommended to make a detour to the "Hoher Stein". Follow the signs to Hoher Stein. After a fascinating panoramic view of Längenfeld, return to the Tauferberg loop via the hiking trail and continue your search.

The start of the circular hike is at the Nordic Sports Arena parking lot (football field, paid) in Niederthai. From there, first follow the paved road straight ahead towards the district of Tellerboden. After about 200 meters, turn left onto the wide gravel path and follow it slightly uphill towards the solitary house; shortly before that, the path leads you left into the forest. Along the wide forest path, you hike almost level to the first cache. As soon as the path is blocked, you are already in front of the first cache. Found it? Then continue hiking through the forest. The second cache is a bit more difficult to find; to your left on a wall, you will find this symbol. After the second cache, the Tauferberg loop starts, and you hike the narrow forest path always slightly up and down through the mystical forest. You will find the third cache by a stone that looks as if a picnic on a stone table would be possible here. After the cache, you get a brief view through the forest and see the village of Längenfeld in the distance. After walking slightly uphill again, pay close attention to the forest man's house. It is not directly on the path. Then continue slightly uphill again, then hike down a narrow path. When you reach the bottom, the forest path continues level until you reach a clearing, which offers a good opportunity to take a short break. Shortly after, you will see an overgrown pond and a feeding station behind it. You can take the narrow path through the grass or go around outside. Have you found the cache at the feeding station? From there, you walk back along the road towards Niederthai; the wide hiking path gently leads downhill to the pasture area (above the football field). To your right, you see a small brook; don't forget to collect cache 6. With the right solution word, you can now collect your very personal treasure at the Niederthai or Umhausen information office.
