curator’s tour: WER WIDERSTAND?
Description
Deserters and their Families
An Evening of Stories about "Life Afterwards"
To fight at the front or to desert? These questions occupied many men during World War II; around 80 deserters from the Wehrmacht once hid in the Ötztal. How they fared and what desertion meant for the families is the subject of a storytelling evening with Hildegard Frischmann.
The handling of the history of deserters was a taboo for a long time. The classification of whether they were heroes or cowards, personal loss, and traumatic war experiences silenced conversations about World War II in many families.
On the occasion of the exhibition "WHO RESISTED? Deserters of the Wehrmacht in the Ötztal," an evening of stories is being held at the Turmuseum Oetz on October 1st at 7 PM. The evening will begin with the local chronicler Hildegard Frischmann, who is the daughter of Alfons Auderer from Tumpen. In September 1944, he no longer reported to his command. He decided not to continue serving as a soldier. Hildegard Frischmann will share family traditions as well as experiences from village life after the war.
Those interested and affected are warmly invited to join the conversation.
