Timmelsjoch - High Alpine Road & Timmelsjoch Experience

Description

The secret gate to the south
In the back Ötztal, the Alps have a "secret gap." The highest mountain pass of the Eastern Alps offers travelers spectacular views of the high alpine nature – and marks the unique Timmelsjoch experience with 6 experience stations.

Twist after twist a pleasure
If you love winding roads, you will love the Timmelsjoch high alpine road. The panorama all around makes you want to slow down at various spots and enjoy the view. From lush green alpine meadows and rhododendron slopes in Hochgurgl, the road ascends into barren, high alpine terrain, where even in summer, patches of snow line the roadway and sheep, goats, or even chamois cross the path to the pass summit.

The road is only accessible during the summer months, usually from the end of May until October. In April, extensive snow clearing operations begin, often needing to remove snow heights of up to ten meters.

The Timmelsjoch experience
In addition to the natural experience of Timmelsjoch, there is also much to learn along the route. At five stopping points, architectural sculptures inform about nature, history, culture, society, and economy of the region. The buildings are dedicated to various thematic focuses and are freely accessible.
An overview of the stations:
- 'Steg', Hochgurgl
- 'Smuggler', Timmelsjoch bridge
- 'Pass Museum', Timmelsjoch
- 'Transit', Timmelsjoch
- 'Telescope', Scheibkopf
- 'Garnet', Moos im Passeier

Note: Free rides with the Summer Card are only possible on the buses of the ÖVG and the Postbus according to the public timetable.
Bus stop: Obergurgl Zentrum
