This treasure route takes you through the beautiful Zirbenwald in Obergurgl. Here you see many old trees and enjoy the view of streams, the via ferrata, and the mountains. You might encounter a squirrel or find a stone pine cone on the path.
The themed trail takes you through the "Obergurgl Stone Pine Forest". The Zirbenwald of Obergurgl is a unique natural monument of remarkable beauty and ecological importance.
Here grow stone pines over 300 years old. These trees can withstand extreme conditions and are adapted to the high altitude and harsh climate of the Alps. Mosses, lichens, and rare alpine flowers thrive among the stone pines, while birds such as alpine choughs and golden eagles patrol the skies.
Occasionally, chamois and marmots can be observed in the steep slopes and rocks of the forest.
How do you find your treasure?
Along the marked route (themed trail Zirbenweg) are small caches (treasure boxes). Each cache contains a puzzle. Solve it and enter the letters into the treasure map. When you have solved everything, you can form a word/solution from it. With this, you then make your way to the Gurgl information point. There you search for the item that represents the word/solution.
Author’s recommendation
There are other caches here too - maybe you want to extend your hike.

Tips and suggestions
This round is not possible in winter because the caches are stuck in the snow.
Roadbook
You start either directly at the Gurgl information point and walk through the village to the Zirbenalm (or start there) to then enter the Zirbenwald. There are several paths through the village to reach the Zirben Alm. Since no cache is hidden here, you can choose your route. Shortly before the Zirben Alm, you cross a high bridge that spans a valley.
Passing the Zirbenalm on the right, you walk towards the railway and via ferrata. After the path to the via ferrata, you will find the first cache hidden on the left.
You continue along the path and keep going uphill. You come to a junction where you turn left towards the Rotmoos waterfall and Schönwieshütte and continue uphill. Sometimes the trees block your view of the other side (right), but eventually you see two streams on the other side, where you will need to search for another cache. Since the path here is quite narrow, watch out for oncoming traffic (hikers). You follow the narrow hiking trail uphill, go around curves here and there, and soon you pass a few signs and the path levels out a bit. Here you head back towards Obergurgl and the Zirben Alm. The path is now almost flat. Here and there you see small puddles and, of course, many stone pines (pine trees). Soon you reach your next cache which is well guarded by a stone pine - here you have to leave the path a little to retrieve the cache.
Continue downhill a little. In winter this is a ski slope. You must always walk towards the Zirben Alm to find the last cache shortly above it. Now there are stones and some trees. Once you have found the cache, you wander down to the Zirben Alm and from there continue to the Gurgl information point. There you can look for the solution and collect your treasure.
