The Tour
OBERGURGL -> Gaisberg valley -> Mutsattel -> Rotmoos valley -> Schönwies hut -> Zirben forest -> OBERGURGL
After Hotel Jenewein turn left, a short section along Gaisbergstraße and across meadows to the entrance of the Gaisberg valley. The path runs close to the Gaisberg stream. Soon you reach the fork in the path; both routes lead to the saddle of Hohe Mut. The shorter and steeper path takes about 1.5 hours, the path via the stamping point of the Gaisberg glacier takes 1 hour longer. The elongated ridge from the mountain station to the Kirchenkogel separates the Rotmoos and Gaisberg valleys. From the Mutsattel you take path 29a descending to Schönwies hut. For the return to Obergurgl, the Zirben forest, passing the Rotmoos waterfall, is recommended.
