The starting point of the route is the village of Kühtai (2,020 m). From there, you ascend steeply on a narrow hiking trail on the northern mountainside up to the Schwarzmoos lakes. In summer, there are many horses on the alpine pastures in this area. The hiking trail continues steeply uphill to the summit of Pirchkogel (2,028 m).
There are two options for the descent.
1) The same way back - duration of the round approximately 4.5 hours, opportunity to stop in Kühtai
2) Descent on the backside of Pirchkogel. Via the Feldringer alpine meadows, you reach Marlstein and from there descend to Ochsengarten via the paved road - duration of the route about 5.5 - 6 hours, opportunity to stop in Marlstein and Ochsengarten
TIP: Park your car in Ochsengarten and take a bus to Kühtai so that you return to your car at the end of the route. Or travel directly by bus from Oetz to Kühtai and then take the bus from Ochsengarten back to Oetz.
