Map & elevation profile

The road over the Haiminger Berg to the "Sattele" at 1690 meters altitude really makes road cyclists sweat. As a compensation, there is hardly any car or motorcycle traffic on this route.

The north ascent from Haiming via the Haiminger Sattele (1690 meters) to Ochsengarten connects the Inn valley with the Kühtai state road and is a special variant for mountain specialists and not an easy undertaking even for Tyrolean standards, as you mostly move beyond the 10% mark. These approx. 1000 vertical meters to the Sattele - the cute name does not make the ordeal any easier, by the way - are tough enough on their own when choosing the demanding and winding ascent over the Haimingerberg. The climb is extremely steep over long sections. This makes it difficult to find a steady rhythm. At the top, as a reward, great views over the Inn valley and the rapid descent down to Oetz await.

Author's tip
Those who prefer it not so steep ride the loop in the opposite direction via the west approach from Oetz.

After starting at the Tourist Information in Oetz, you ride downstream towards the Inn valley to Ötztal train station, at the 2 roundabouts take the 1st exit each and then continue on the Inntalstraße towards Haiming. At the roundabout at the west entrance of Haiming take the 1st exit, from here it goes uphill to the Haiminger Sattele. The climbs are very steep (up to 15%). In summer it can be very hot and sweaty here with a wonderful view of the Inn valley below. The climb then continues to the Haiminger Sattele. The road leads along the top of the mountain through the forest to Ochsengarten. You can also turn off via a short side road to the hamlet of Marlstein. There and in Ochsengarten there are great places to stop for refreshments. Then it goes downhill back to Oetz. The road surface is very good and you can enjoy a fast descent. In Oetz at the roundabout take a right turn back to the Tourist Information in Oetz.
