THE APPLE TREE IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN

Sautens stretches over several districts, connected by a long row of houses into a village center. At the end of the village street in Sautens is the lime kiln, where lime was burned again for the first time in 2004 (after 75 years), and since then, regular community events have taken place. In the 1920s, up to 15 lime kilns were in operation. At that time, limestone was considered a versatile building material. Passing the lime kiln, the long-distance hiking trail takes us through sometimes dense forest areas, small villages, and finally to the green Inn. Along the Jakobsweg and always along the over 500 km long tributary of the Danube, the path leads through many floodplains, meadows, and forests.

Haiming has been known as a fruit-growing area for centuries. Major market days take place in autumn where the harvest is offered for sale. Only a few meters remain to be covered back to Ötztal Bahnhof, the start and end point.

Author's tip

Urweg Tip: Haiming Apple Mile

Shortly after the underpass before Magerbach, the path leads left towards the Haiming Apple Mile. To get there, follow the path running parallel to the motorway along the mountain side towards the Inn valley. After a while, descend to the many fruit trees of Haiming and walk in a loop through the sunny dry area of the Inn valley back to Magerbach, passing the Geierwand, a paradise for climbing enthusiasts.
