Recommended maps

Kompass hiking map (available at the Ötztal Tourism information offices)

AT THE FOOT OF THE WILDSPITZE VIA THE SEUFERT TRAIL

You hike down the slope in front of the hut and then descend into the valley of the Vernagtbach on the left. From here, a magnificent view opens up to the Great Vernagt Glacier with the Hochvernagtspitze to the north or northwest. There you cross the Vernagtbach and hike up on the opposite side to the flat areas at Platteiberg. From Platteiberg, the route continues only above the Rofental. You then cross the Platteikar, shortly after the trail leads through the Mitterkar. Directly above the Mitterkar rises the Ötztal Wildspitze, which presents an unusual rocky face. At the shelter, it is time to enjoy the view: opposite, among others, the Kreuzspitze rises. To the southwest, the Hochjochferner and the shapely Weißkugel show themselves.
