In Obergurgl you follow the asphalt road below the University Center until you reach the last houses of the village. Here you turn right into the cart trail which leads across Alpine meadows to Davids Hütte. Follow the walking trail until you reach the ledge (bench and cross) opposite Nasenwand rock wall. Keep to the left and walk along the ascending path through the 400-year old stone pine forest, heading towards the western slope of Hohe Mut on the easy to intermediate gravel path. Towards Rotmoostal you cross a bridge before you get to the serviced Schönwieshütte.
A slightly descending cart trail takes you further on to Gurgler Alm pasturelands, a 8000-year old cultural landscape with the stone shepherds hut. Heading to the upper valley in the foothills of Hangerer peak, you pass a small chapel before ascending again to the old border hut and – across the saddle – to Langtalereck Hütte.
