FAQs ski touring in Tirol

Basically, you should follow the so-called "onion principle", which means that you wear several (thin) layers of clothing on top of each other. The first layer, worn lose to the body, should be quick-drying, functional sports underwear. Depending on the temperature, you can also wear a fleece or softshell jacket over it. A hardshell jacket protecting you from the wind should be the last layer ideal for the skiing down to the valley. HERE you will find more useful tips and a packing list for appropriate ski touring equipment.

Of course, the price for a guided ski tour depends on its length and time required: whether it is a one-day ski tour or a multi-day ski tour. However, on multi-day ski tours the price varies depending on the range of services – package deals can already include overnight stays in a hut and the like. The local mountain guides and ski tour guides in Ötztal are happy to provide more detailed information on prices for guided tours. Accompanied ski tours can be booked directly online in the Adventure Shop.

First of all, the ski touring helmet should be light and well ventilated. Especially the ascent on a ski tour is fairly exhausting and makes you sweat a lot, so the helmet should let enough air through to your head. Additionally, a ski touring helmet should protect the side of your head. The helmet not only protects against possible rockfall, but also increases impact protection when skiing downhill. The expert Ötztal sports shops will be happy to advise you on the right choice of ski touring helmet.

The "regular" ski touring equipment comprises touring skis with touring bindings, telescopic poles, climbing skins, crampons, digital avalanche transceiver, avalanche shovel, avalanche probe, first aid kit and mobile phone. A ski helmet protects against head injuries. Depending on the tour or route (for instance: glacier crossing), the equipment must also include sit harness, carabiners, runners, etc. You can find a complete packing list for your ski tour HERE.
