The villages of the Oetz Region
Summer holiday dream for families
Already two and a half thousand years ago, both locals and travelers felt particularly at ease at the entrance to Ötztal. Not without reason the village of Oetz gave the name to the entire valley. Until today, the region is well-liked for its typical Tirolean charm and the huge variety of unique summer activities. The villages of Oetz, Sautens and Haiming-Ochsengarten warmly welcome young and young at heart in a relaxing atmosphere plus all modern amenities amidst Alpine nature and unspoilt landscapes.
Oetz 820 m
Charming & Pure nature
At the foot of 3008 meter tall Acherkogel peak, Oetz attracts visitors with a surprisingly mild climate, earning the epithet "North Tirol's Meran ". The picturesque village center takes you back to bygone times. Historic buildings such as the Museum in the Tower, the parish church and many ornate facade paintings from the 16th century bear witness to carefully grown village architecture which can rarely be observed in Tirol. Additionally, countless restaurants, cafes and boutiques invite you to enjoy a stroll through the village. Ötztaler Ache mountain brook flows through the village, one of Europe's most popular white water areas for river rafting and kayaking fans. Also mountain bikers and paragliders appreciate Oetz as a perfect starting point.
Very close to Oetz - called "Ez" in the local dialect - there is a hidden natural landmark: Lake Piburger See is lovingly embedded in a basin above the village, fascinating walkers, hikers and mountain bikers with great natural beauty. In summer, the natural lake reaches up to 24° Celsius and is considered one of the most beautiful swimming lakes in Tirol.
For hiking and mountaineering aficionados the Oetz Region offers a variety of tours. Above all, the Hochoetz pasture and hiking region opens up an almost paradisiacal variety of experiences. The choice ranges from easy hut walking tours, e.g. to Balbach Alm, Kühtaile Alm, Bielefelder Hütte or Acherberg Alm, to summit tours and Alpine crossings towards the neighboring side valleys of Ötztal and Kühtai.

Lower Ötztal has probably received almost the double of wild natural landscapes compared to other regions, making it the number one destination when it comes to outdoor action in Tirol. The roaring waters of Ötztaler Ache mountain brook, the green riffles of the river Inn, the waterfalls, rock slides and pools in narrow gorges like the famous Auer Klamm ravine stand for pure thrill in the fields of kayaking, river rafting and canyoning. Several professional outdoor companies offer a large selection of tours for beginners and experts alike. The largest portion of adrenaline and fun is served at the AREA 47, Europe's most unique leisure time park at the entrance to Ötztal where water sports are redefined in a myriad of facets - from blobbing and speed slides to wakeboarding. Climbing fans balance, for example, in the high rope park of the AREA 47, in the forest and high wire garden of Ötztal's Outdoor Course in Sautens or scramble up via ferrata routes and climbing gardens in natural rock. Special thermal currents make Ötztal a true heaven for paragliding tandem flights suitable also for beginners.
