On Treasure Hunt

Real treasure hunters are invited to search for the coveted "9for5 & 5for1" caches within the whole Ötztal Valley. Caches are hidden in the region’s most scenic spots, and provide you with more detailed information on how to gather the special "Ötz-Taler" geo-coin while giving an insight into the great variety of Alpine landscapes in the Ötztal.

How do you get this Ötztal gem?

Nine cache boxes are hidden within the entire Ötztal. If you find five out of nine caches you receive the ultimate and well-deserved Ötztal geo-coin.

 

How do you find the location of the single "9for5&5for1" caches ?

You will find the coordinates of the caches right here or you can download it from www.geocaching.com under the name "9 for 5 & 5 for 1".
You can print the map and stamp card here for an overview of all the single cache locations.

 

How do you get to the coveted Ötz-Taler?

To prove your finds there is a marking clipper in each of the 9 caches. Every clipper features a unique pattern. 5 of these patterns must be punched out so that you can pick up the Ötz-Taler Geocoin at the Information Umhausen. Good luck!

Geocaching Ötztal Highlight Tyrol

Coordinates: N 47° 11.920 E 010° 53.491

  • From the Kanzel vantage point you enjoy superb vistas of Oetz from a bird's eye view. The name "Kanzel" derives from the church pulpit as this spectacular panoramic point towers high above the village of Oetz.
  • Trail details
    An asphalt road leads from Oetz up to the hamlet of Piburg where you find a car parking area in summer (subject to charge), east of Hotel Seerose. From there you continue walking to the lake.
  • From Oetz you can also take Andreas Hoferweg trail to Wellerbrücke bridge, walking along a rising forest trail to the lake. On the northern shore you follow the signs that show you the way to the Kanzel area.
  • Walking time: approx. 1/2 hour

  • Useful hint:
    From the vantage point (bench) you follow the coordinates along the trail. To your right you will find an outstanding stone.

  • Lake Habicher See is embedded in the scenic Achstürze - Piburger See Nature Preserve. The picture-book little Alpine lake at 840 meters above sea level has a length of about 50 meters and is 25 meters broad. It can be found south of Habichen amidst a natural rockslide area.
  • Trail details
    From Oetz on a wildly romantic trail to the old Wellerbrücke bridge, then towards Kohlstatt area and further on to lake Habicher See.
  • Walking time: approx. 1/2 hour
  • Alternatively you can also follow the signposts directly from Habichen, then you will reach lake Habicher See within 10 minutes.

  • Useful hint:
    Search for a huge rock on the wayside.

  • This secluded, idyllic spot amid unspoilt nature is an absolute must for passionate nature explorers. Lush green meadows and pasturelands promise rest and relaxation. Recharge your energies in a fantastic water and mountain paradise.
  • Route description
    From Tumpen you walk on the forest trail for about 15 minutes until you reach a small wooden platform next to the waterfall. Picture-book view of Tumpen and the surrounding mountains. Once in Tumpen, avid hikers can continue the tour towards Armelen Hütte, Gehsteigalm or Vordere Tumpener Alm in summer.

  • Special tip
    Outside the small bridge is a huge stone that is observed from a high seat.

  • Towering high above Engelswand rock face steeped in legend, visitors are warmly invited to enjoy dreamlike panoramic views and genuine Tirolean hospitality. The winding, steeply ascending trail was cut into the rocks.
  • Route description
    Leave your car in the foothills of the wall, there is no driving route. From here you continue on foot along the steep path to Farst: walking time 1 – 1.5 hours. Among the real nature highlights ranks the ascent to Reich-Alm (approx. 1 hour from Farst).

  • This awesome place deserves its name: indulge in the "eagle's view" and enjoy this totally different perspective high above the valley. The wooden eagle gives you a warm welcome, taking you on a panoramic tour of the mountains following the traces of the Alpine eagle. Now you take the rope and ascend to the viewing platform, a few meters above the vantage point you will again meet the king of all birds.
  • Thanks to small periscopes provided on the platform you can explore the different vegetation areas. Detailed information on the valley's and people's lively history are provided as well.
  • Trail details
    This easy trail travels along Kochlerweg Trail to the newly designed "Adlerblick" vantage point".
  • An alternative route leads from the hamlet of Dorf (school) up to "Adlerblick": walk towards Längenfeld until you reach the underpass on the left (main road) and a trail fork. Keep to the right in direction Hemerach, Kockle and Hörndle. Follow the trail to "Adlerblick" for about 40 walking minutes.

  • A truly unrivaled and legendary experience amid unspoilt nature. The fabulous hiking trail high above Längenfeld's valley floor leads along a scenic route to the high Alpine pasturelands – the splendid "Ötztal Trail of Legends" is an absolute must for walking fans of all ages".
  • Trail details
    The theme trail starts at the Huben sports field. It's a one-hour walking tour ideal for families amid wonderful nature landscapes. Along the trail hikers find huge rocks with detailed information panels and larger-than-life sized figures giving an insight into 14 Ötztal legends deeply rooted in history.
  • Walking time: approx. 1hour

  • Get to know more about Alpine plants and animals and how they can survive in Ötztal's high Alpine. The splendid trail travels mainly along the natural timberline located right between the subalpine forest and alpine shrub zone, the lower part of the varied high Alpine ecosystem.
  • The High Alpine Ecology Theme Trail, leading to Gampe Thaya, gives an insight into the local fauna and flora. Special information panels are spread along the route.
  • Trail details
    1. Drive along the glacier road until you reach the toll station. Follow the trail towards Hochsöldenstraße and the junction to Gampe. A leisurely trail takes you to Gampe Thaya.
  • Walking time: ½ hour
  • 2. By bus to Hochsölden: nice hiking tour to Gampe Thaya, via Sonnblick (5 min from the bus stop). After a leisurely 40-minute walk you reach a trail-fork where you keep to the left in the direction of Gampe Thaya.

    Maybe there is something behind the big triangle of stones!

  • Starting point is the road between Zwieselstein and Untergurgl. Next to the signpost "Sahnestüberl" there is a parking area. 5 minutes from here you also find the typical wooden mountain huts – called "Tajen" in dialect – belonging to the Alpine pasturelands of the local farmers. The Gurgler Ache mountain brook and the mountain forest also make an ideal grazing area. A very atmospheric and romantic place for all those in search of peace and relaxation. The two mountain huts at 1640 meters above sea level are widely known as "Sahnestüberl", a truly authentic snack station.
  • Alternative trail:
    From Zwieselstein Bridge/Gurgler Ache a steeply ascending gravel trail is winding up the slope. Later the path flattens out and takes walkers through a wooded area and past a scenic waterfall  to the mountain hut.
  • Walking time: approx. 1 1/2 hours
  • By bus: from the bus stop Zwieselstein/Sahnestüberl in about 5 walking minutes to Sahnestüberl.

  • The awe-inspiring rope suspension bridge gives a deep insight into the scenic Rofnerschlucht gorge formed by the Alpine glaciers!
  • On the way from Vent to the Rofenhöfe farmhouses you reach this unique suspension bridge across the mighty Rofnerschlucht gorge. A challenging experience as the bridge is some 46 meters long. The bridge, towering 30 meters above the ground, offers wonderful views of the Venter Ache mountain brook and its breathtaking surroundings. Don't miss out on this wonderful feeling of weightlessness and the picture-book view. You will soon recognize that the Ötztal valley has a myriad of gorgeous nature treasures worth visiting.
  • Today, the crossing of the scenic bridge is a quite comfortable way to reach the other part of the valley. Until 1967, hikers had to climb down the rock face, cross a narrow footpath over the mountain brook and climb up the opposite rock wall. Fortunately the highly talented Klotz brothers built a sensational suspension bridge over the gorge. In 1984 the original bridge was completely renovated by Tirol's regional government – a real highlight for walkers of all ages.
  • Trail details
    The lovely trail leads from Vent past the ancient hunting base towards the hamlet of Rofen in about 1.5 hours.
