"Today is going to be interesting", together with a certified mountain guide I will conquer the fixed rope trail at the Lehn waterfall near Längenfeld. In the afternoon I can test my climbing abilities at one of the 6 climbing gardens of the Ötztal valley. The harness fits perfectly; express loops and karabiners are hooked. The rope runs along the rock like a snake. Excitement increases from one move to the next. The fixed rope course is a great way of getting to know climbing.

In the foothills of the Engelswand face we spread a blanket. "Climbing shoes must not get dirty on the soles - because of friction", a climbing comrade states. Above us are already some climbers. It's really amazing how experienced climbers move on the rocks. In the Ötztal valley are all sorts of routes with different names and at different levels of difficulty. My guide secures me and I start to climb upwards using the magnesia stained holds. The view of the valley is fantastic and again. I've discovered a new sport for myself.
