The museum mostly focuses on paintings! The early paintings are dedicated to religious themes. The museum's highlights are Alpine landscape paintings, which first turned up some 200 years ago. Many known artists were witnesses of the discovery of the Ötztal Alps and their paintings are valuable documents. In the villages at the entrance of the Ötztal valley a strong and witty folk art movement was present.
Photography is also presented from time to time. Photos are not only pieces of art, but also topographical evidence. Personalities that grew up in the Ötztal valley and made a career away from their home are also presented; most famous: the sculptor Matthias Bernhard Braun! Touring exhibitions enrich the program. It is taken great care to represent local characteristics of art that do not get their share in big institutions.
